Continued Support for Education is Essential
With the continued focus on our children’s education, the Rotary Club of Stratford upon Avon have been discussing needs in Primary Schools, and Gilly Rushton, Chair of the Clubs Youth Opportunities Team, has been contacting schools in the Stratford area to offer support.
Gilly said ‘We are all aware of the need to provide schools and students with laptops or iPads to support studies, and many of the older students in Stratford have already benefitted from schemes to ensure their learning can continue, however, we wanted to ensure our Primary school children were also fully supported, so we contacted the schools to discuss their needs’.
Out of the 9 local Primary Schools in the area, Gilly discovered that whereas schemes were in place to cover some of the needs of Key stage 2 and above students, there was a paucity of iPads to teach in classrooms, or at the homes of Key stage 1 pupils. Some of the schools had sufficient equipment to cover their needs but 5 schools still needed support, so the Youth Team arranged for 10 iPads to be delivered, which were received at the start of February.
Boo Jones from Shottery St Andrew’s CE Primary school, whose school was one of those who benefited from the iPads, was delighted with Rotary’s offer of support and said ‘Thank you so much for the donated iPads, they will be used for home learning for children in years Reception/Year 1/Year 2, so they are very much appreciated.’
3 of the pupils from Shottery St Andrew’s CE Primary School got to work straight away!
